Artist Biography

Marina was Born in the south of France on July 25th 1983.
Like most kids she Started drawing at an early age sketching people on paper, scribbling on walls.
She found in this a more than color-full pastime. It was a way for her to keep track of her memories.
A way to capture places and faces.
Her art education has come from books, exhibits, documentaries, traveling, and music.
It was in Prague, while on an internship for costume design, that she truly began painting. Staying in a painter's home inspired her to start playing with textures, colors and shapes.
She returned to California after several years abroad and had her first show at a Santa Monica Gallery in 2004.
Her style has grown more abstract in the past year , She recently started working on a series of paintings focusing on World maps. Using old maps, satellite renderings of various countries, she is playing with the outlines of earth and water. For the first time the work is more focused on the texture than the evident outcome as in her earlier work. She works with acrylics as a base and then depending on the piece adds sand, moss, spray-paint in order to render the wanted texture.
